Wanneroo City
1 Westside FC 11
Today at 10am the Wanneroo City 8’s took
on the Westside FC and unfortunately went down 11 -1 to
the more experienced Westside FC who in the main has
played together for some time. Westside FC dominated the
1st half as the Wanneroo City 8’s tried their
hardest to close down the unrelenting attacks forward.
If it was not for the hard running and skill of Charlie
Thoburn and Owen Keen and the solid defensive work of
Fezaan Sheikh and great saves by the keepers Jacob
Lekbunseng and Michael Bechelli the score could have
been far worse.
However, Wanneroo City thought back hard
in the second half through more cohesion in the backs
positions and stringing quality passing through to the
forwards. The defence of Max Wadkins and Rishab
Sethuraman in the second half shut down the Westside FC
attacking moves and finally half way through the second
half Jacob Lekbunseng opened the scoring for the home
team, which was setup by a quality tackle by Rishab
Sethuraman and if it wasn’t for some very good saves by
the Westside FC keeper to prevent some good shots by
Owen Keen and Michael Bechelli from reducing the final
margin.
The boys gave it their best and had a
great time (and that’s what matters) and I am sure the
boys will develop some cohesion and improve their skills
as the team plays together during the season and
hopefully strings some wins together.

Wanneroo City
6 Sorrento 8
Wanneroo City 8’s took on the
Sorrento FC and unfortunately went down 8 – 6 after
leading at half time 5 – 3. This week the team
showed more cohesion and moved to space while in
possession and dominated the first half, primarily
through the dominance of Charlie Thoburn in midfield
and attack being supported by Owen Keen and Michael
Bechelli up front and a solid display by Fezaan
Sheikh, Amin Khaer and Irwan Derviskadic at the back
and midfield with Rishab Sethuraman keeping all day
putting in a solid performance and pulling off some
marvellous saves. If it was not for the dominance of
the Sorrento number 8 Ross Williams who scored 3 in
the first half and 5 for the match then Wanneroo
City would have had all wrapped up in the first
half.
Charlie Thoburn and Owen Keen
bombarded the Sorrento goal in the first half with
Charlie piling on 4 goals and Owen 1 goal and if was
not for some solid keeping by the Sorrento Keeper
stopping several more attempts by Charlie, Owen,
Amin Khaer and Michael Bechelli then the match would
have been all but over.
However, due to Wanneroo City only
having one substitute this week the boys tired in
the second half and the solid defensive and midfield
structure held in the first half disappeared in the
second and Sorrento piled on 5 goals to 1 in the
second half. The only scoring highlight for
Wanneroo in the second half was Michael Bechelli
goal in the second half right on full time.
It must be said that Wanneroo City
performance this week was much better in the second
match of the season with the boys holding good
structure for most of the match and stringing some
solid passing throughout the match and with the
return of players after the holiday break will
continue to see the under 8’s improve and hopefully
put a win on the board in the near future.
Well done Boys

Kingsway 8 Wanneroo City 5
Once again the boys put on a sound effort and if
wasn’t for a fine display by the Kingsway number 5
who scored at least 6 goals the boys would have
finally had a victory. Unfortunately, Wanneroo City
lost to Kingsway 8 – 5 as the boys tired in the
second half after it was all squared at 4 -4 in the
first half. The goal scorers were Owen Keen (2) all
from long range and were unstoppable for any under 8
player, Charlie Thoburn (2) who wants again put a
solid game together in the midfield and Michael
Bechelli (1) who showed some striker instinct when
he pounced onto a dropped ball in the penalty area.
Max
Wadkins (1st half) and Michael Bechelli
(2nd half) made some quality stops in
goal and Amin Khaer, who made some quality sliding
tackles in defence and Fezaan Sheikh held the
defence up most of the day as unfortunately Wanneroo
City only had 6 players and was unable to substitute
all day, which led to the fall away in the second
half.
Once again a good performance and I don’t think a
victory is far away when Wanneroo can field a full
side and substitute to keep the boys fresh.

Wanneroo City 5
North Beach 5
A great game by the
boys this week, with a very solid game across
the board and if it wasn’t for two late goals in
the final minutes for the visitors North Beach
then the boys should have had the first win for
the season. The team cohesion seems to be
developing and the first win should not be far
away and if it wasn’t for a quality effort by
the opposition goal keepers who managed to save
5 to 6 quality shots by Charlie, Michael, Rishab,
Jacob and Owen.
Once again Charlie
led the way with a quality midfield performance
with 3 goals and was well supported by Jacob and
Michael with a goal each.
Well done boys and
very unlucky not to win as we controlled the
game most of the day.

Hamersley
Rovers 4 Wanneroo City 4
Unfortunately the
boys didn’t adjust to the first early start as
Wanneroo City seemed to be asleep in the first 5
to 10 minutes as we conceded 4 goals in this
period. After this point the boys fought back
and dominated the remainder of the game with
Michael (2 goals) and Jacob (1 goal) dominating
up front and showed some very good cohesion
upfront with both of them stringing quality
passes together from the half way line to open
the defence and finally finishing with a good
finish. Michael almost snatched victory but was
thwarted by the Hamersley Keeper on several
occasions in the last 5 minutes. Owen scored the
remaining goal with a curling corner kick that
the keeper failed to take cleanly and split into
the back of the net.
Charlie made some
quality saves in the second half to keep
Wanneroo in the game.
The team cohesion
and skills by the boys are improving, especially
in the younger members of Amin and Irwan and in
the new players who are playing their first
season of soccer such as Michael, Rishab and
Max. The remaining players of Charlie, Fezaan,
Jacob and Owen and also improving with each
game.
We would also like
to welcome our newest player Jamie to our team
who I believe will provide a boost in our
midfield ranks.

Once again the boys struggled with the early start
and seemed more intent on defending rather than
moving into attack and as a result gave the
opposition far too many opportunities, in which they
capitalised on. Owen kept very well in the first
half and only conceded 1 goal before Whitford City
took their chances in the second half with some
quality shots that many keepers would have struggled
to keep out.
Wanneroo City goal scorers were Jacob and Charlie
with one each.
