Junior First Team Trials will commence on Monday October 27, 2008 and will continue until all squads of 14 players have been selected, trial dates are as per below.

Dates and Times are subject to change and is the responsibility of players  to regularly check this site.

Note: There will be no trials for the U15 age group in 2009, squads will be selected for this age group after January registrations.  Those U15s in 2009 who feel they have sound ability are encouraged to trial for the U16s.

 

All players are requested to attend at least 30 minutes before the commencement of trials.

Note: Girls trialling for a mixed team can trial in both their correct age or one year younger for example a girl born in 1997 can trial for either the U12s or U11s.

 

 

Purpose

Wanneroo City Soccer Club (WCSC) will select players for its junior 1^st teams without regard for the financial means of
the player’s family.  WCSC recognises that some players’ families may not be able to afford the fees and
expenses associated with playing competitive soccer due to financial hardship or other circumstances.  Therefore,
scholarship assistance may be available to such players on the basis of financial need. Funding for scholarships will be
limited to the amount reserved by WCSC for this purpose.

Eligibility

·         Any player who was NOT registered with the WCSC or Wanneroo City Junior Soccer Club during the
previous two years, 2007 and 2008; and

 

·         Who is selected to be a member of a WCSC Junior 1^st team in either the Development Squad, U11s, U12s, U13s, U13s Girls, U14s, U15s or U16s; and

 

·         Whose family feels that it cannot afford the fees and expenses associated with playing junior soccer

 

Application

The player or his or her family may apply by completing the WCSC scholarship application Form.  Upon receipt of
the written request, the WCSC will request from the family the information minimally required to make a determination of
the family’s financial need.  Such information may include verification of the family’s eligibility for other financial
assistance programs, unemployment or welfare assistance.  If the family does not qualify for or cannot provide verification
of eligibility for such programs, the WCSC may request additional information, including income tax returns or pay slips. 
Any information received by the WCSC will remain confidential and not shared with anyone other than the
Scholarship Committee and members of the WCSC Executive Committee as needed to review eligibility.

To be eligible all applications must be received prior to the commencement of the 1^st day of trials being Monday
October 27, 2008.

Award Determination

All award determinations will be made by a five person Scholarship Committee comprising the Club President, Director
of Junior Coaching and three members of the Junior Working Committee (JWC) or someone so designated by the JWC
to serve on the Scholarship Committee.  This committee will meet as needed and will maintain the confidentiality of
all discussions of personal and household financial information.  The committee may not include a relative or potential
coach of the subject player or any other person that may have a conflict of interest in determining eligibility.

Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of the criteria listed under the heading of “Eligibility”.

A player’s family, regardless of financial circumstances, shall make a once only financial contribution of $75 payment for  player’s fees as a way of demonstrating a commitment to the club, and securing their position if their respective 1^st team.

Scholarships are awarded for a single 12 month period corresponding to WCSC’s team formation calendar.  A
player’s scholarship allocation will only be for the 2009 season.

Debbie Singh is the author of "You'll Never Walk Alone" a true story of the 'Bangkok Hilton', and the mother of several boys who currently play at the Wanneroo City Soccer Club.

Debbie Singh's life fell apart when she received a letter from her brother out of the blue. He had been sentenced to ten years in Klong Prem prison, the notorious 'Bangkok Hilton', for fencing a $1,000 cheque. The severity of the sentence shocked Singh, and she immediately set off to Bangkok to visit him, offer her support, and locate his Thai-born son (Jason U11s).

Appalled by the horrendous circumstances she found him in, she started a campaign to have him transferred to an Australian jail, something never achieved before. This campaign changed her life - and that of her family - forever.

With great honesty and heart, You'll Never Walk Alone tells the story of Singh's great determination and strength in the face of adversity, the rollercoaster ride of emotions she had to face in the six year struggle to save her brother, her ongoing charity work, and the heartbreak she felt as her life was torn apart by a bitter twist in the tale.

Debbie’s campaign eventually changed the law in two countries and launched Debbie on a journey of self discovery which continues today with her support of Sister Joan Evans, a Perth nun living in Thailand.

As a result of the experiences related in this memoir, Liverpool-born Debbie Singh is a well known campaigner for Australian prisoners in foreign jails. Debbie was nominated as one of 25 inspirational West Australians by Scoop magazine for 2005 and currently works with the West Australian Department of Justice, supporting and mentoring underprivileged children. She is also deeply involved with charity work in Thailand, assisting Sister Joan Evans in helping the poorest of the poor in Bangkok's Klong Toey slums. Debbie travels to Bangkok, Thailand every six-month’s and supports Joan who supports the children of Klong Toey

The Children in Klong Toey play Football (Soccer) 24/7, and is considered a great form of “Escapism” from the oppressed conditions in which they live, the majority of these children do not have access to football boots and the game is played in bare feet.

If you have football boots no longer in fashion, are to small or generally just not required Debbie would love to coordinate the distribution of these boots to the children in Klong Toey, to assist Debbie is this venture which she does bi-annually the Wanneroo City Soccer Club wishes all our friends to go to the trouble of donating any unneeded boots which will be collected and stored at our clubhouse for Debbie to distribute with the assistance of Thai Airways who graciously offer her a large allocation of excess baggage to cater for her needs.

Wanneroo City’s Junior Goalkeeper Coach, Wayne Stone, will be holding weekly training sessions for ALL keepers that wish to attend on a weekly basis, commencing at 6pm (until approx 7.30pm) on Tuesday January 15, 2008. Sessions for non members of the Wanneroo City Soccer club are at a cost of $15 per session.
